Instant ATS scan

Paste text for local checks, or upload a file for text extraction before the local checks run.

AI recruiter review

A senior-recruiter-grade critique: section scores, formatting issues, missing keywords and strengths. Uses 1 free daily AI generation and sends the resume text to the AI review endpoint when you click.

AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies. Text you submit for AI features is sent to the server-side AI provider for processing; please review and personalize the output before use.

Fix what the scan found

Quick Start

  1. Add your resume

Paste at least 40 characters for the instant scan, or upload a PDF, DOCX, or TXT file.

  2. Review local checks

Inspect the score, detected sections, page estimate, and eight rule-based checks as you edit.

  3. Request deeper feedback

Optionally run the AI recruiter review and download its sectioned report as a PDF.

About the ATS Resume Score

This checker separates measurable resume structure from qualitative feedback. The instant scan examines pasted or extracted text for parseable contact details, standard sections, length, quantified achievements, action verbs, weak phrases, and characters or layouts that can disrupt text extraction. It updates as the text changes, making it useful for iterative editing rather than as a one-time grade.

The optional AI review is a separate server-assisted action. It returns an overall assessment, section scores, formatting concerns, missing keywords, and strengths. The result is guidance, not a prediction of how a particular employer's applicant tracking system will rank an application.

How to Use ATS Resume Score

  1. Choose Paste and enter your resume text, or choose Upload for a text-based .pdf, .docx, or .txt file up to 5 MB.

  2. Read the instant score and expand individual checks to understand what passed and what needs attention.

  3. Revise the text and review the live checks again.

  4. If you want qualitative feedback, select Get AI deep review. This sends the resume text to the server-side AI provider.

  5. Review each recommendation critically and optionally download the AI report as a PDF.

Key Features

  • Live deterministic scan

Eight checks run against resume text without requiring the AI review.

  • File text extraction

Accepts text-based PDF, DOCX, and TXT files up to 5 MB through the resume-upload endpoint.

  • Section-level AI review

The optional review returns section scores, strengths, missing keywords, and formatting issues.

  • PDF report

A completed AI review can be exported as a sectioned PDF report.

When to Use ATS Resume Score

  • Pre-application check

Confirm that contact details and standard resume sections can be detected before submitting.

  • Template review

Check extracted text from a designed resume for risky characters or table-like lines.

  • Bullet improvement

Find bullets that lack action verbs, measurable outcomes, or clear wording.

How It Works

Instant analysis

The browser computes a deterministic score from the extracted text. Each check has an explicit point value and explanation, so the result is reproducible for the same input.

Optional AI analysis

Selecting the AI review submits validated resume text of 50–30,000 characters to the ATS review endpoint. The response is structured into an overall score, summary, section feedback, formatting issues, missing keywords, and strengths.

Supported Formats and Options

Formats

  • Pasted text

Plain resume text entered directly in the editor.

  • Resume uploads

Text-based PDF, DOCX, and UTF-8 TXT files up to 5 MB.

  • Report output

On-page results and an optional PDF download for the AI review.

Options

  • Paste or upload

Switch between direct text entry and server-side file extraction.

  • Instant or AI review

Use local rule-based checks alone or request the separate AI assessment.

Common Errors and Troubleshooting

Common errors

  • Too little text

The local scan needs 40 characters, while the AI review requires at least 50.

  • No readable upload text

Scanned or image-only PDFs may contain no extractable text.

  • Upload rejected

The file may exceed 5 MB, use an unsupported format, or fail content validation.

  • AI limit reached

AI generations are rate limited and may be unavailable until the limit resets.

Troubleshooting guide

A section is not detected

Use conventional headings such as Work Experience, Education, and Skills, then make sure the heading appears in extracted text.

An uploaded PDF appears incomplete

Copy text from the PDF manually to check whether it contains a real text layer. Image-only scans require OCR before this tool can read them.

Limitations and Important Notes

  • The score models selected ATS-friendly signals; it does not reproduce every commercial ATS or employer workflow.
  • The instant scan evaluates text patterns, not visual design quality or factual accuracy.
  • AI feedback may be incomplete or inaccurate and should be reviewed before editing a resume.
  • A high score does not guarantee an interview or job outcome.

Privacy and Data Processing

Pasted text is analyzed locally for the instant scan. Uploaded files are sent to the resume-upload route for one-time text extraction. Selecting the AI review sends resume text to the server-side AI provider. PDF report generation is also server-assisted. Avoid including sensitive information that is unnecessary for the review.

Tips and Best Practices

Practical tips

  • Use standard section names and a single-column reading order.

  • Keep claims truthful and support important achievements with numbers where possible.

  • Test the extracted text from a PDF before relying on its visual appearance.

  • Treat the score as a checklist, not an employer decision.

Best practices

Before scanning

Remove sensitive details that are not needed for feedback and keep an original copy of the resume.

After scanning

Fix structural failures first, then improve wording. Recheck the text after exporting from your resume editor because PDF generation can change extraction order.

Technical Details

Local scoring is deterministic and derives word count, estimated pages, detected sections, contact signals, bullet patterns, risky characters, and other text indicators. File extraction uses server-side PDF and DOCX parsers or UTF-8 text decoding. AI requests accept 50–30,000 characters.

Who Is This For?

Job seekers who want to check resume structure before applying, career advisers reviewing document readability, and candidates comparing an exported resume with its underlying text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the score predict whether I will pass an ATS?

No. It checks selected structural and writing signals. Employers configure different systems, filters, and screening questions.

Which uploads are supported?

Text-based PDF, DOCX, and TXT files up to 5 MB are supported for text extraction.

Is the instant scan the same as the AI review?

No. The instant scan is deterministic and local. The optional AI review sends text to a server-side AI provider for qualitative feedback.

Why is my scanned PDF unreadable?

An image-only PDF has no text layer for the parser to extract. Run OCR or paste the resume text instead.

Can I download the result?

The AI review can be downloaded as a PDF after it completes.
