Every second, the timer subtracts the current moment from your target and splits the remainder into whole days, then the leftover hours (0–23), minutes (0–59), and seconds (0–59). The difference is clamped at zero, so a passed target holds at 00 rather than going negative.
The target is interpreted as local wall-clock time on your device — the same convention as setting an alarm. That makes the countdown exact for events defined in your own timezone, and it is why cross-timezone moments should be converted to local time before being entered.
